The Health Promotion Officer - Multicultural Women supports the delivery of tailored programs and initiatives that work towards applying an intersectional approach to health promotion efforts, with a particular focus on migrant and refugee women.

About the Opportunity:

The Health Promotion Officer – Multicultural Women supports the delivery of tailored programs and initiatives that work towards applying an intersectional approach to health promotion efforts, with a particular focus on migrant and refugee women. This position forms part of the Health Promotion team working across our priority areas: Mental Health and Wellbeing, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Gender Equality and the Prevention of Violence Against Women.

This role will focus on building the capacity of local partners to meet the needs of migrant and refugee women in the area, across all WHLM’s priority areas. This will include contributing to the development, delivery and evaluation of health promotion activities in the context of WHLM’s vision and strategic plan.

We are looking for someone with:
  • Commitment to WHLM’s vision, purpose, and values, including an understanding of, and commitment
    to, intersectional feminism, gender equity and women’s health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Lived experience as a multicultural woman and demonstrated understanding of the impact of
    refugee and migrant experience on health and wellbeing.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Health Promotion, Public Health, Social or Health Sciences, or other relevant qualification (desirable) and/or experience in listening to community needs and developing appropriate resources.
  • Demonstrated understanding of delivering health promotion/ community programs for diverse
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including computer literacy and an ability to engage
    with people from a range of different cultural backgrounds and experiences with sensitivity and
  • Knowledge of the Loddon Mallee community would be well regarded.
  • Full Victorian unencumbered motor vehicle licence and the legal right to work in Australia. Ability to
    travel in the region as needed
  • Enjoys working with people – likes working with a wide range of people, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Motivated self-starter with excellent attention to detail
  • Action orientated – makes things happen, gets things done and makes progress in a resourceful way.
  • Ability to operate flexibly – in both a planned and responsive mode
