Statement: Now is not the time to go backwards. We need prevention more than ever.

For nearly 40 years, VicHealth has been a global leader in health promotion, setting the benchmark for public health and earning the trust and goodwill of communities, stakeholders, and partners. Prevention work does more than improve health outcomes; it creates safer, fairer, and more prosperous communities, particularly for women and children.

VicHealth has been the backbone of primary prevention in Victoria and across Australia. This work is critical to ending violence against women and addressing the root causes of inequality. Without strong, dedicated health promotion, we risk losing decades of progress.

Preserving VicHealth’s legacy and prioritising chronic disease prevention and preventative mental health support is not optional – it is essential to the health and wellbeing of Victorian communities. As our healthcare system struggles under rising rates of chronic disease and mental health concerns, a dedicated prevention model is the key to keeping Victorians healthier for longer.

Victoria has long led the nation in primary prevention. We cannot afford to go backwards. Women’s Health Loddon Mallee calls for continued, unwavering investment and commitment to evidence-based health promotion and primary prevention. Our communities deserve nothing less.

We encourage our partners, followers and other stakeholders to join the call to save Vic Health by signing and sharing this petition:
