Congratulations to everyone that showed up, spoke up, and took action to change the story when it comes to gendered violence during the 16 Days of Activism this year.
As another 16 Days campaign draws to a close, we feel a sense of hope and solidarity. Violence against women is prevalent in our communities, but it is preventable when we work together to build cultures of respect and equality where we live, work and play.
We were so impressed with how widespread the campaign was this year, featuring a broad range of events and activities with opportunities for engagement, growth and learning – from special Storytime events at libraries, to community gatherings, social media campaigns, and the many community walks against violence.
We’ve included below some ways we can all work together to continue growing the movement and making an impact toward ending gender-based violence in our region.

We Can Change the Story:
Evidence Based Actions to Prevent Gendered Violence
A collective effort is required to address the drivers of violence across all levels of our society. We all need to play our part – individuals, families, organisations, governments, businesses, systems, and whole communities. Our Watch outlines the four essential actions needed to end violence against women:
- Challenge the condoning of violence against women
- Promote women’s independence in public life and relationships
- Build new social norms that foster personal identities not constrained by rigid gender stereotypes
- Support men and boys in developing healthy masculinities and positive, supportive male peer relationships
