Loddon Mallee Gender Equality Toolkit

A new resource to support local government authorities, community health services, and other organisations across the region to take meaningful actions to progress gender equality for a healthier future.

Women’s Health Loddon Mallee (WHLM) has launched a new resource, designed to support local government authorities (LGAs), community health services, and other organisations across the region to take meaningful actions to progress gender equality.

This two-part toolkit equips organisations with the knowledge and tools to:

  • Understand the link between gender equality and health outcomes
  • Understand and adhere to mandates and requirements relevant to gender and gender equality.
  • Embed gender and gender equality into their organisational culture and across communities.
  • Conduct Gender Impact Assessments by providing gender disaggregated data and analyses of priority areas outlined by the Health and Wellbeing Plan.

Whether you’re a policy maker, health professional, or community leader, this toolkit offers practical insights and actionable strategies to help you drive progress.

What’s inside the toolkit?

The resource is divided into two comprehensive parts:

Part A lays the groundwork by exploring:

  • The importance of gender equality in health and wellbeing
  • Key contributing factors to inequality
  • Legislative and policy mandates relevant to LGAs and health services

It’s the essential starting point for understanding why gender equality matters, and how to begin embedding it into your work. Download Part A

Part B provides a gender analysis for each of the priority areas identified within the Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2023-2027:

  • Increasing healthy eating; Increasing active living
  • Improving wellbeing
  • Climate change and its impact on health
  • Reducing harm from tobacco and e-cigarettes
  • Improving sexual and reproductive health
  • Reducing harm from alcohol and drug use
  • Preventing all forms of violence
  • Reducing injury
  • Decreasing antimicrobial resistance across human and animal health.

This section helps organisations apply a gender lens to their planning and decision-making, ensuring that health initiatives are inclusive and equitable. Download Part B

By using this toolkit, you’re not just meeting legislative and policy requirements, you’re shaping a healthier, fairer future for everyone in the Loddon Mallee region.
