This International Safe Abortion Day (28 September 2026), we’re joining regional, statewide and national organisations in supporting the Fair Access, Wherever You Live campaign and calling on the next Victorian Government to take action to improve access to abortion care across the Loddon Mallee.
Abortion is essential health care. Health care shouldn’t depend on your postcode. Yet across the Loddon Mallee, access to abortion care remains uneven. Where someone lives can affect how far they need to travel, how quickly they can access care, and the options available to them.
These barriers are often compounded for people who already experience inequities in health care, including First Nations peoples, people with disabilities, migrant and refugee communities, trans and gender diverse people, young people, and people experiencing financial hardship.
The Fair Access, Wherever You Live campaign is calling on the next Victorian Government to:
- Strengthen the regional abortion care workforce through ongoing investment in training, mentoring and clinical support for existing and new providers
- Make referral pathways clear, consistent and accountable, so people can get accurate information and reach the right care without unnecessary delays
- Protect, strengthen and expand abortion care across Loddon Mallee, with continued investment in services and flexible, place-based models that respond to local community needs.
Abortion care is time-sensitive healthcare. Everyone should be able to access timely, supportive care and make informed reproductive choices, regardless of where they live or their circumstances.
