16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign that raises awareness and calls on communities to take action to end violence against women. Established in 1991, the campaign runs annually from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day, highlighting violence against women as a human rights issue.
There are many ways to get involved in this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Whether it’s attending a local event, starting conversations about gender equality, sharing campaign messages, or supporting prevention initiatives in your community, every action helps build a safer, more equal Loddon Mallee for everyone.
Looking for ideas? To support your involvement, we’ve compiled a selection of campaign and activity ideas that can be adapted to your local context. The CARE in Action: Stories from the Loddon Mallee resource showcases real examples of gender equality and prevention of violence initiatives led and delivered by community groups and organisations across the region. Highlighting what works well in rural and regional communities, the resource offers practical ideas and inspiration to support collective action during 16 Days of Activism and throughout the year.
Download and share printable campaign assets as part of your 16 Days of Activism campaign.

Creating positive change can sometimes attract resistance or misinformation. Being prepared can help you respond effectively and keep the focus on the positive change you’re working to achieve.
We’ve compiled some resources to help community groups and organisations prepare for and respond to backlash, resistance and misinformation during the 16 Days campaign and beyond.
Gather around the kitchen table with family, friends, colleagues and other community members to watch the Raise Them Equal animation series. Use the accompanying conversation starters provided with each animation to explore how we can raise children free from limiting gender stereotypes and support them to thrive and reach their full potential.
We’ve compiled a selection of children’s books that promote inclusion, gender equality, and respectful relationships.

Utilising local data sourced from the Crime Statistics Agency and the Women’s Health Atlas we have compiled data snapshots relating to violence against women in each of the Local Government Areas that make up the Loddon Mallee. These snapshots provide insight into key indicators relating to violence against women, helping to build understanding and inform local action.
